Mohr Interesting News
The Sox nabbed Dustan Mohr, the Denver Post reports. Boston signed him to a minor league deal though it is likely he breaks camp with the big club given his ability to hit left-handers. Over the last three seasons, Mohr has hit at a .261/.345/.470 clip against southpaws, making him an able platoon partner for right-fielder Trot Nixon, who rather famously can’t hit his way out of a paper bag against lefties. It’s a nifty, low-risk pickup if you ask me.

What do you think the odds are that Tito actually uses Mohr instead of Trot against lefties? Up until this point, he has done little to show he understands how to effectively platoon players based on L/R splits etc.

Oh he gets it I think. No way Trot sees at-bats against Kazmir, Lilly, Bedard or that big ugly dude that pitches out of the Bronx this year.

Wait, wait, they took care of the fourth (heh, third) outfielder slot? That’s fricking spectacular, honestly. I was worried that we’d suffer through another couple of months of Trot hitting .220 and killing rallies against lefties, but this sounds great.
Good job theo. Now, just don’t do the Crisp deal.

I’m gonna play Devil’s Advocate here. Mohr’s three-year stats were influenced by playing for Colorado last year. He “hit” .154/.205/.301 with just 7 BB vs. 47 SO on the road last year.
Let’s take a look at how Mohr performed vs. LHP prior to his year in Colorado:
2004: .243/.338/.400
2003: .265/.348/.453
2002: .203/.293/.338
Mohr might benefit from Fenway. But, on a ballpark neutral basis, he looks like a .240/.330/.400 type hitter vs. LHP.
