Pedro

Pedro Martinez is the best starting pitcher the Red Sox have ever employed. In 1999 and 2000, he was the best starting pitcher anybody has ever employed. This isn’t the return of a very good, charismatic lead-off hitter that took off for the hated Yankees. This is the return of the very best Red Sox of them all, save Ted Williams. Welcome him. Welcome him with wild enthusiasm and emotion and show him that we understand the artistry and dominance he demonstrated every fifth day. He’s the best any of us will ever see, and his reception tonight should reflect an appreciation of this.

While I agree I am also quite annoyed by Pedro’s constant “diva” like antics. He keeps stressing the Red Sox front office didn’t really want to sign him, but they offered his asking price. He needs to let the contract stuff go and stop obsessing about Boston.

He was definitely one of the best players ever in Boston. He also seems to be down on Curt Schilling. Without Schilling we would have never gotten to the next level. I wish him well and glad he wasn’t a straight traitor like Damon, but I hope we rough him up bad tonight.

Neither boo’s or cheers for me. Half the time he was in Boston I wanted to throttle him, won’t talk to the press, dissing team mates, I need that extra day off, I will show up when I want to on game day and the other half I would sit in awe as he would mow down batter after batter. The 2004 parade, and the fact that he is the second or third player that I mention about the 2004 team is all he gets from me from now own.
