The third best player on the Twins edged Derek Jeter for the MVP award today. I have been a vocal critic of awards voting over the years, but this is an Andre Dawson-style sham.

I don’t have that huge a problem with it. He carried them from June on. I don’t think they make the playoffs without him.
I also wouldn’t have voted for him either, but I think it was really just that close. I like to think somehow it was them saying to the managers, wowah there guys Jeter isn’t THAT good with the glove.

Forget every other candidate and just focus on Joe Mauer, Morneau’s very own teammate.
Without going into too much detail, I just don’t know how you value the 1st Baseman with a slug-biased 140 OPS+ over the catcher with the on-base-heavy 144 OPS+.
