PANIC! At the Toilet

I have little to say about Wednesday’s game. It was frustrating to watch, even more so while listening to Paul O’Neill, John “Flash” Flaherty and Michael Jeter-Kay.

In browsing Curt Schilling’s Baseball-Reference page I noticed a disturbing trend. You may know that Schill has given up a ton of hits this year (62 in 58 IP entering Wednesday) but has maintained a respectable 3.57 ERA. He hasn’t prevented walks -  he’s on pace for his highest total since ‘98 (60), and his strikeouts are down (7.29 per 9IP). Why the low ERA? With men on base opponents are hitting .256 on balls in play in 2007. This is far, far below his career average of .316 in the same situation. He’s been lucky and I fear the worst has yet to come.

“I have gotten to see some neat towns. Coming here from New York it was a pretty neat drive.” Roger must have been confused. Never an eloquent man, this statement borderlines delusional. The New Jersey Turnpike and Trenton are far from “neat.”

Clemens’ line was 5.1 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, 5 BB, 4 K. Heads will roll if this is a sign of things to come. Joe, you’re first at the firing squad. I suggest Robert Erskine Childers’ famous last words; “Take a step forward lads - it’ll be easier that way.”

I feel you’re frustration with the YES commentators. I can put up with O’Neill, but that Mike Kay has got to be the biggest Homer to ever set foot in any broadcast booth.
Point in case was in the 1st inning when Coco got pick off the bag. Replay shows that the tag was not applied. He claims that the Refs don’t have the luxury of all the Hi-Def replays. What a complete idiot. Would it be so hard to simply say that the Yanks got away with a bad call. Then he goes back to yesterdays game to show a replay where the Red Sox got one on the Yanks which was also a Coco steal.
I really hate homers. I don’t mind obnoxious Yank fans so long as they respect the game and can acknowledge when they lose. So many of these Yank fans are delusional with one excuse after another. I guess Mike Kay appeals to his target audience and is perfect for the Yankee demographics.
I only wish MLB Extra Innings had an option of which network I could view the game. Not trying to show Bias but it is a real treat to watch games with the NESN guys. Total Class! I appreciate the tell it like it is mentality when it comes to the game situation, and they never throw a palyer under the Bus. Heck they go out of their way to say nice things about A-Rod and other Yankees we Sox fans love to hate.
Zach, nice insight on Schilling. He’s definitely is a little down from previous seasons. Thanks for the statistical evidence, but have faith in the character of the man on the mound not the numbers they are held too. Curt will have some games down the road where we will remember just why we love that guy. He’s a pivotal personality that is needed for the younger pitchers in the rotation and he brings more intangible attributes to this team than a start every 5th day.
Regarding Clemens! I can’t wait to see a Clemens/Schilling start. For a while we put so much on waiting for a Schilling/R. Johnson show down and it never seemed to line-up that way. Schil/Rocket really excites me and my money is definetely on Schill.
Win or lose, Rocket is looking to make 1.27mil per start. Based that he’ll be in pinstripes with 110 games to play thus having 22 starts. Clemens’ line was 5.1 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, 5 BB, 4 K. (as Zach posted from dbl A) That could result in a lot of expensive loosing efforts. I hope he gets the Memo that this is the American league.

I actually consider myself a fan of Clemens’, and I hope he does well, but if he doesn’t, the tears of Yankees fans will be delightful.
